German Heaven and Earth

Boil the potatoes in salted water for about 10 minutes.

Add apples and continue cooking until both apples and potatoes are tender.

Drain and mash the mixture with sugar, lemon juice, butter, cinnamon, and nutmeg.

Cook the bacon until crisp, then saute the onions in the drippings.

Spoon the bacon and onions over the mashed apple-potato mixture before serving.
