German Chocolate Pie
German Chocolate Pie makes two smaller pies with sweet baking chocolate, evaporated milk, eggs, coconut, pecans, and a garnish of whipped cream and chocolate shavings. The filling is intentionally soft out of the oven and firms during cooling.
Cook the chocolate and butter over low heat, stirring until the chocolate melts.
Remove from the heat and gradually stir in the evaporated milk.
Combine the sugar, cornstarch, and salt, then add the eggs and vanilla and mix well.
Whisk in the chocolate mixture, pour into the pastry shells, and sprinkle with coconut and pecans.
Bake at 375 F for 45 minutes, cool at least 4 hours, and garnish with whipped cream and chocolate shavings.
