Pampushky(Ukrainian Donuts)
Pampushky(Ukrainian Donuts) is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 3 pkg. dry yeast, 1 1/2 c. milk, warm, 1/4 c. butter, 1 tsp. salt and 6 egg yolks, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. An easy weeknight meal that comes together quickly.
Dissolve yeast in 1/2 cup of warm milk.
Blend butter and sugar; add beaten egg yolks.
Add milk and yeast mixture.
Add flour, lemon rind, salt and nutmeg and remaining cup of milk; mix well.
Cover with light dish towel and let rise in warm place until double in bulk.
Punch down and let rise again about 1 hour.
Roll dough to 1/2-inch thickness.
Cut out with top of wine glass or donut cutter.
Place on greased cookie sheets and cover with dish towel; let rise again about 1 hour.
Heat 4 cups Crisco oil in large skillet.
Drop a few pampushky and let them fry to a golden brown; turn.
Remove onto clean paper to absorb surplus oil.
When cool, sprinkle with powdered sugar.
