French Onion Soup is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 3/4 c. butter, 4 medium onions, thinly sliced, 1 tbsp. flour, 5 (10 1/2 oz.) cans beef broth and 1/3 c. burgundy, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. Perfect for family dinners and special occasions.

Melt butter over medium heat; add onion and cook for 40 to 50 minutes, stirring frequently.
Sprinkle flour over onion; cook 2 minutes, stirring constantly.
Add broth, wine, pepper and thyme. Bring to boil.
Cover, reduce heat and simmer for 30 minutes. Ladle soup into 8 individual baking dishes.
Top with toasted bread slices.
Sprinkle with cheeses.
Broil for 2 to 3 minutes to melt cheese.
