Season meat with 2 teaspoons salt and dash of pepper.
Cook onions in hot fat until tender but not brown; remove onion and brown meat slowly on both sides.
Place meat in 3-quart casserole; add onions, potatoes and bay leaf.
Pour soup over.
Cover and bake at 350Β° for 1 hour and 45 minutes.
Add beans; cook 10 to 15 minutes more.
