Norwegian Christmas Bread
Norwegian Christmas Bread is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 2 cakes or pkg. yeast, 3 c. scalded milk, 1/2 c. lukewarm water, 3/4 c. sugar and 1/2 c. butter or shortening, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. Simple to make and full of bold, satisfying flavors.

Dissolve yeast in 1/2 cup lukewarm water.
Pour scalded milk over shortening.
When lukewarm, add yeast, sugar, 1/2 the flour, cardamom and salt.
Beat well for 10 minutes.
Add eggs and beat well.
Add remaining flour and fruit.
Knead well.
Place in greased bowl.
Cover and set in warm place until double in bulk. Knead down.
Let rise again.
Put in pans.
When double in size, bake 15 to 20 minutes in a 350Β° oven until golden brown.
When removed from pans, brush with butter.
Makes 5 loaves.
