German Chocolate Cake
This German Chocolate Cake is an upside-down 9 x 13 cake with pecans and coconut in the pan, chocolate cake batter above, and a cream-cheese powdered-sugar swirl baked through it. The result is sticky, nutty, and cut into rich squares.
Grease and flour a 9 x 13-inch pan.
Scatter the pecans and coconut evenly over the bottom of the pan.
Prepare the German chocolate cake mix with the eggs, water, and oil according to the box directions.
Pour the cake batter over the nuts and coconut.
Melt the oleo and cream cheese together, then mix in the powdered sugar until smooth.
Pour the cream-cheese mixture into the cake batter and swirl carefully without disturbing the nuts and coconut.
Bake at 350 F for about 40 minutes, until the cake is set.
