Sprinkle yeast and 1/2 teaspoons sugar on milk; stir to dissolve.
Let stand 10 minutes.
Sift together flour, 2 tablespoons sugar and salt into bowl.
Make a well in the center. Add yeast and eggs; mix just until blended.
Stir in raisins, apple, candied fruit and lemon peel.
Cover and let rise in warm place until double, about 1 hour.
Drop batter by heaping tablespoonfuls into deep hot oil (350Β°), frying until golden brown, about 3 minutes.
Drain on paper.
Roll in confectioners sugar.
Yield: approximately 15.
