Fruitcake Cookie "Jewels"
Fruitcake Cookie "Jewels" is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 4 c. all-purpose flour, 1 tsp. salt, 1 tsp. soda, 1 c. shortening (crisco) and 2 c. firmly packed brown sugar, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. Great for entertaining guests or a cozy night in.

Combine flour, salt and soda.
Cream shortening; add sugar and eggs, beating until fluffy.
Add buttermilk alternately with flour mixture.
Add nuts, fruit and raisins.
Chill dough for several hours, then drop by teaspoons about 2 inches apart on lightly greased cookie sheets.
Top each cookie with a cherry half.
Bake at 375Β° (preheated) for 8 to 10 minutes.
Yields 6 to 8 dozen.
