Drain fruit cocktail, reserving syrup.
Pour syrup and water into a 2-quart saucepan.
Bring to a boil and remove from heat. Add gelatin; stir until dissolved.
Cut ice cream into several pieces and blend into the hot gelatin until melted.
Chill until partly set.
Fold in fruit; pour into pastry shell.
Chill until set.
Serve with whipped cream.
