French Onion Soup
French Onion Soup is an moderately easy French soup you can prepare in about 1 hour 16 minutes. Made with c. butter or margarine, medium onions, thinly sliced, c. beef stock or 4 (10 oz.) cans beef consomme, c. sherry and french bread, toasted, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. In a stock pot, melt butter.
Saute onions until tender.
Add stock; simmer for 20 minutes.
Stir in sherry.
Pour soup into individual ovenproof soup crocks or soup tureen.
Float toast on top; sprinkle with cheese.
Broil 4 inches from heat, until cheese melts and begins to brown.
Serve at once.
