Asparagus Casserole
Asparagus and sliced hard-boiled eggs layered under a creamy American cheese sauce and topped with buttery breadcrumbs. A church-supper side that turns simple vegetables into a homey casserole.

Melt butter in 1-quart microsafe cup on High power for 30 to 60 seconds.
Stir in flour, salt and pepper.
Whisk in milk. Microwave on High power for 3 to 5 minutes, until mixture thickens, whisking every 2 minutes to combine.
Stir in cheese; blend well.
Microwave on High power for 30 seconds, if needed, to melt cheese.
Snap off tough ends from asparagus.
Wash in cold water.
Pour 1/4 cup water and 1/4 teaspoon salt into 12 x 8-inch microsafe dish.
Place 1 pound asparagus spears in dish.
Cover with plastic wrap.
Microwave on High power for 6 minutes, rearranging halfway.
