Bring water to rapid boil. Add garlic, salt, pepper, chickpeas (with juice) and oil. to rolling boil.
Add pasta (and onion and bouillon, if desired). Cook until pasta is tender. Do not drain.
Serve with grated Parmesan or Romano cheese and a loaf of crisp bread.
This soup may be reheated in microwave.
