Cream shortening and sugar; add eggs, one at a time.
Mix well. Add baking powder, soda and salt to flour and sift.
Add flour mixture to creamed mixture, alternately with buttermilk.
Add flavoring and mix well.
Refrigerate dough for 1 hour, roll to 1/2-inch thickness, cut cookies and place on a cookie sheet.
May sprinkle tops with sugar.
Bake at 350Β° for 12 to 15 minutes.
