June Birthday Cake is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 3/4 c. shortening, 1/2 tsp. salt, 1 c. sugar, 1 c. water and 1 tsp. vanilla, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. A comforting dish that warms the soul.
Cream shortening, salt and sugar.
Add water and flour alternately to creamed mixture.
Add flavorings and mix well. Beat egg whites stiff and add 1 cup sugar to blend well.
Fold egg whites in last until well blended.
Do not beat as it destroys lightness of egg whites.
Bake for 15 to 20 minutes.
Have oven fairly hot the first 5 minutes, then reduce heat and bake remaining 15 minutes.
