Melt over hot (not boiling) water the chocolate morsels with shortening; set aside.
Stir together and set aside flour, baking powder and salt.
Beat until thick the eggs and sugar.
Add flour mixture, chocolate mixture and vanilla.
Blend.
Pour into 8-inch square, greased, wax paper lined pan.
Sprinkle chopped nuts over top.
Bake at 375Β° for 25 minutes.
Yields 16 (2-inch) squares. Allow to cool before cutting.
