Swiss Steak
Swiss Steak is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 2 lb. round steak (1 inch thick), 2 tbsp. flour, 1 tsp. salt, 1/4 tsp. pepper and 2 tbsp. shortening, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. An easy weeknight meal that comes together quickly.
Combine flour and seasoning.
Dredge mixture thoroughly into both sides of steak.
Cut into serving pieces.
Place fryer over medium heat and add shortening.
Brown meat well on both sides. Mix vegetables and place over meat.
Cover and reduce heat to low and simmer until tender, about 1 1/2 hours.
Thicken remaining sauce for gravy.
Serves 6.
