Old Fashioned Prune Butter(Low-Fat) is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 2 c. pitted prunes (3/4 lb.), 1/2 c. honey, 1/4 c. apple cider vinegar, 1 1/2 tsp. grated lemon zest and 1 tsp. ground cinnamon, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. A crowd-pleaser that never disappoints.

In heavy saucepan, put prunes and 3 cups water.
Bring to boil and reduce heat to low.
Simmer, uncovered, until prunes are very soft, 25 to 30 minutes.
Drain and return cooked prunes to saucepan; add honey, vinegar, lemon zest, cinnamon and allspice. Simmer gently, stirring and pressing with a wooden spoon to break up the prunes.
Cook until very thick, about 10 to 12 minutes.
Let cool.
(Can be stored, covered, in refrigerator for 2 weeks or in freezer up to 6 months.)
Excellent on whole wheat bread.
