New Haven Cake is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 1 (8 oz.) pkg. cut up dates, 1 tsp. soda, 1 1/2 c. hot water, 1 stick oleo and 1 c. sugar, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. Bursting with flavor in every bite.

Pour hot water over dates and soda; set aside to cool.
Cream oleo and sugar.
Add eggs and beat.
Add flour and cocoa, sifted together, alternately with date mixture.
Add vanilla and mix well.
Pour into an 8 x 12-inch greased pan.
Top with chocolate chips and nuts.
Bake for 40 minutes in a 350Β° oven.
Serves 12 or more.
