Cream together shortening, sugar, brown sugar and peanut butter.
Mix together milk, vanilla and egg.
Sift together plain flour, salt and soda.
Mix all ingredients, gradually adding flour mixture.
Shape into balls about the size of a quarter and roll in white sugar.
Place on cookie sheet and bake at 350Β° for 7 to 8 minutes. Take out and press a chocolate kiss on top and bake about 1 to 2 minutes longer.
